Friends of the River will be sponsoring the 2009 California Rivers Festival on Saturday, March 14, from 10 am to 5 pm at Sacramento Waldolf School in Fair Oaks. This festival occurs as our Central Valley rivers and California Delta are in their worst ever ecological crisis.
Sacramento River chinook salmon, delta smelt, longfin smelt, green sturgeon and the southern population of orcas are in an unprecedented state of collapse, due to massive water exports out of the Delta and the mismanagement of Central Valley dam operations by the state and federal governments. This event will allow you to have fun while learning about the work of Friends of the River and other conservation organizations to protect and restore the state's rivers and the Delta.
